The old Sam begins his story. How Sméagol is ensnared by the power of the One Ring, and how Bilbo Baggins finds the Ring from the cave and agrees to a riddle game with Gollum. What have I got in my pocket?

After celebrating his 111th birthday Bilbo leaves the Shire, but Gandalf is still worried about the dangerous One Ring. Many years later Frodo, with his friends Sam, Merry and Pippin, sets off on a dangerous quest.

With the Black Rider on their heels, four hobbits enter the Old Forest where they get help from the mysterious Tom Bombadil. Elsewhere, Gandalf meets Saruman the White. All the roads are leading to the village of Bree.

The hobbits seek answers from the Prancing Pony. When Frodo is careless with the One Ring, a man called Strider interferes. He volunteers to lead Frodo and his companions to Rivendell. But in the cold wilderness, the enemy is closing in.

Black Riders attack the camp in the woods, but Strider - now known to all as Aragorn, drives them away. In Rivendell, Frodo is reunited with Gandalf and Bilbo, and the Fellowship is formed. Nine companions. So be it.

The journey is full of uncertainty and sadness. The company is attacked by Orcs and Gandalf lost in Moria. In Lórien, the Hobbits see dark visions shown by Galadriel. After Boromir is blinded by greed, Frodo and Sam continue together.

After a difficult climb down to the Dead Marshes, Frodo and Sam soon have a new, unlikely companion. Gollum makes a promise to serve the new master of the Ring and lead them all to the dreaded Black Gate of Mordor.

Gollum is torn between his desire for the Ring and his recent promise to Frodo. The main gate to Mordor is well-guarded by Orcs, but Gollum knows an alternate entrance. They have to go through the dark tunnel with spider's web.

The final confrontation between Frodo, Gollum and the Ring happens at Mount Doom. When the great shadow has passed, there are familiar faces in Minas Tirith. A journey back to the Shire will be bittersweet, but not all tears are an evil.
