Ad Melkert is on his way to become the minister-president of the Netherlands. But when the 9/11 attacks happen, the impact is felt by the Dutch too. Columnist Pim Fortuyn decides to get involved in politics.

Melkert wants to address the growing migration problems, but Kok stops him. When Fortuyn offends the Islamic culture, a storm of protest arises. The members of Leefbaar Nederland discuss whether Fortuyn can stay as their leader.

Fortuyn decides to form his own party: Lijst Pim Fortuyn. Meanwhile Melkert tries to win back the voters by profiling as the "common man". The two debate after the municipal elections, where Fortuyn had a huge win in Rotterdam.

When Fortuyn gets hit with a cake, he appeals to no longer get demonized. Melkert ups the ante to win the Erasmus debate. The rising tension between them not only affects their private lives, but sparks open aggression between supporters.

Nine days before the elections, Fortuyn is shot dead. Chaos ensues and Kok lets LPF decide if the elections can continue. Mat Herben succeeds Fortuyn as party leader, while the anger of their supporters shifts to Melkert.
