Mar 13, 2020
Our nation seems to be in meltdown mode over CoronaVirus paranoia. The hysteria is now over the top and excessive. We are better than this. We can get through this, together, but only if we get smart about it rather than fearful.
Mar 17, 2020
In response to health concerns over the CoronaVirus, the Governor of Iowa mandated that all restaurants were to stop in-store dining as of 3/17/20. But many, including Pie Five, do still offer carry out and delivery options.

Apr 11, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E75: There's no doubt about the fact that this pandemic situation is changing the whole world around us. People talk about 'getting back to normal', but will we ever really do that? I wonder what kind of people we will be when this is all done.
Apr 17, 2020

Apr 21, 2020
Green has always been my favorite color. Now I've carried it on into the mask that I'm wearing due to the current pandemic conditions. As my pal Kermit says, it's not easy being green, but green sure does look good on the cover of my Learning While Working book.
Apr 23, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E78: In this rather lengthy episode I share from my wealth of 'collectible' items I've acquired over the years. Each is a memento to celebrate my enjoyment of specific movies or TV shows. Yes, I'm one of those.
Apr 24, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E79: Social media allows us to connect like never before. It also enables us to fight like never before. And increasingly it seems like people only use social media to attack, argue, and fight. I miss open, honest, thoughtful discourse.
Apr 30, 2020

May 15, 2020
Today, May 15, 2020, is the day my 2nd daughter, Victoria Kirsten, would have been 30 years old. Instead she "finished the race" ahead of the rest of us and became our "forever baby". She remains personal symbol and motivation for me.

May 19, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E88: So many celebrities and media personalities are now taking to social media to continue to "perform" for their fans or remain connected. It's a great use of technology. It's also something I was doing long before the rest of them.

Hello From My Front Porch S492: Peaceful protests of the tragic death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers are now occurring all across the nation. But sadly reports are that the peaceful message of change is being hijacked by those with ulterior motives.
May 31, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S493: We can be our own worst enemies. As a society we've become far to quick to assign people to groups and then pass judgment on them based on that grouping. We need to get better about seeing each other as unique individuals to overcome our differences.
Jun 05, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E94: There is a great deal of debate right now over the concept of whether one group 'matters' as much as another group, with some arguing all groups 'matter' equally. But I have a slightly different view which is based on you as an individual.
Jun 09, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E95: With all the stress and anxiety in the world around, the constant barrage of bad news coming at us, and those who just seem to want to argue for the sake of arguing it can be easy to get sucked down by it. But find ways to resist losing yourself.
Jun 12, 2020

Hello From My Front Porch S4E103: Demands for DC statehood are nothing new. The topic comes up most election years, and 2020 is no different. But I take a quick look at the history behind why Columbia is a district and why, in my opinion, it should never become a state.
Jul 02, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E104: I find as I grow older that the things which touch my heart and mean the most to me are less about things and more about the thought and emotions behind those things. Such is the case this Father's Day with both of my kids making me feel loved.
Jul 04, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E105: Independence Day in the USA is when we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. But it is more than documented historical footnote. I feel there are concepts within it that we could learn a lot from yet today.
Jul 07, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E106: Wearing of masks seems to be the latest hot button topic. It has become yet another way for us to be divided and pitted against each other. Much being said on both sides is passion over principles. We need to really stop and know our facts.
Jul 10, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E107: I am already sick of the 2020 election cycle - even though Election Day 2020 is four months away. As mean, petty, and insulting as both sides already are; it will be so much worse very soon. I wish we could just call for the vote right now.
Jul 13, 2020
Hello From My Front Porch S4E108: As my renewed travels take me to other parts of the country where the rules around wearing masks are different that at home in Iowa, I have no problem complying. I know the mask is more symbolic than truly helpful; but "when in Rome".
