When Gary needs money for a new house, Ron convinces him to try his investment idea for the second time.

Gary is left feeling unwanted when a Czech officer takes an interest in Phoebe.

Gary is due in court after his arrest for drink-driving.

Gary attempts to have simultaneous dinner dates with Yvonne and Phoebe with a little help from Ron.

When Yvonne lands her dream job up north, Gary feels he must finally choose between the two women he loves.

The daily hardships of wartime life begin to take their toll on Gary and he contemplates returning to the present. Reg is disappointed when Gary fails to turn up for fire-watching duty.

Since Ron is unable to pay him for his fictional sales job, Gary finds an alternate way to earn some quick money. Gary decides to enter a talent contest in the hope of winning a gramophone for Phoebe.

After Gary's success in the talent contest, Wix books him to play some more shows.

Yvonne is convinced she's pregnant. Gary and Phoebe spend a weekend in the countryside.

Phoebe's worried when she learns her pub licence is set to be revoked. Meanwhile, Gary's in danger of losing his route to the past when a development project begins in Duckett's Passage.
