The animated comedy television series Ed, Edd n Eddy, created by Danny Antonucci, revolves around three adolescent boys collectively known as "the Eds", who live in a suburban cul-de-sac. Unofficially led by Eddy, the Eds constantly invent schemes to make money from their peers to purchase their favorite confectionery, jawbreakers. Their plans usually fail, leaving them in various predicaments. Its sixth season was ordered along with a fifth season and three holiday specials after Cartoon Network renewed the series, meaning that the fourth season would not be the final, as it was set to be. The four original seasons were set during perpetual summer vacation, the new seasons showed the Eds and children going to school, the fifth during fall, and the sixth during winter. Although with the season, the series was set to air a total of 78 half-hours, although only one, consisting of two episodes, aired on June 29, 2008; the season was postponed due to Antonucci's production team at a.k.a. Cartoon wanted to concentrate on the TV movie series finale Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show, after the series broke records as the longest-running original Cartoon Network series and Canadian-made animated series to date. Both aired episodes were created in 2007.

The voice cast remained the same as in season four, featuring Matt Hill, Samuel Vincent and Tony Sampson as Ed, Double D and Eddy, David Paul Grove as Jonny 2x4, Keenan Christenson as Jimmy, Janyse Jaud as Sarah and Lee Kanker, Kathleen Barr as Kevin and Marie, Peter Kelamis as Rolf, and Erin Fitzgerald as Nazz and May Kanker. Unlike the first four seasons, none of season five's episodes were released on home video. However, the season is available for purchase on the iTunes Store.

In 2001, James Wootton was nominated for the Annie Award for an Outstanding Individual Achievement for Storyboarding in an Animated Television Production, for his work on the season premiere episode, "Wish You Were Ed." While the first season itself received generally positive reviews, the second season proved to be an improvement in reception, garnering acclaim and earning two Leo Awards, while the first received one. The Complete Second Season DVD was released in Region 1 in 2007. The Ed, Edd n Eddy DVD volume Edifying Ed-Ventures, also featured season two episodes. Both DVDs were published by Warner Home Video. Many Cartoon Network compilation DVDs featured episodes from the season. It can also be purchased from the iTunes Store. It was written by Antonucci, Jono Howard, Mike Kubat, and Robert Leighton.

The other two Kanker sisters, Marie and Lee, were voiced by Kathleen Barr and Janyse Jaud. Adult cartoonist Antonucci conceived Ed, Edd n Eddy while working on a commercial design. Antonucci pitched the series to Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Both studios were interested in the series, but each demanded creative control and Antonucci refused. Cartoon Network ended up commissioning the show after agreeing to let Antonucci have control of the show. According to Cartoon Network executive Linda Simensky, the first season did "remarkably well" in Nielsen ratings following its premiere and became one of the top-rated series on the network and had a slight impact on popular culture, prompting Cartoon Network to quickly order-up a second season for a November 1999 premiere, and later a third and fourth. While initial reviews of the pilot were mixed, the first season was met with generally positive reception, earning Antonucci a Reuben Award for Best Television Animation.
