As Ben finds success with his novel, Laura turns to the bottle.

Linda and Richard get tired of dealing with Laura as she descends into alcoholism. Meanwhile, Ben flirts with his new publicist, Nina.

Laura lashes out at everyone who loves her as she hits rock bottom, which ultimately leads her to a psychiatrist's office.

Richard throws a party for Linda, unaware that she hasn't told her coworkers about her pregnancy. Laura's plans to reconcile with Ben hit a wall when she realizes he's seeing Nina.

Laura regrets having a fling with an obnoxious man, Nina breaks up with Ben, and Laura's and Jane's mother comes to visit.

Ben's novel is optioned as a motion picture, but he doesn't approve of the egregious liberties that the studio is taking with his story.

When Cooper asks Jane her opinion on some film scripts, Linda takes the opportunity to push her own agenda. Meanwhile, Ben moves into Laura's apartment, but he doesn't feel at home.

Richard wants to pursue his dream of becoming a pianist, but he has difficulty breaking the news to his dad.

Linda reluctantly supports Richard's decision to quit the family business. Also, Ben neglects to thank Laura when he wins an award.

Ben is horrified to learn that his parents have sold his childhood home. Meanwhile, Jane destroys Laura's ceiling.

After watching Fatal Attraction (1987), Ben becomes convinced that Nina is plotting to destroy him. Also, Geneva puts Linda on a diet.

While collaborating on a book with his mentor, Ben does all the work and Jake takes all of the credit.

Geneva's ex-boyfriend breaks out of prison and entrusts her with a bag of stolen jewels.

Laura throws Linda a baby shower, but Linda is furious when she discovers it was Richard's idea. Also, a laundry room mix-up leads Laura to believe her neighbor is a pervert.

Laura and Linda are annoyed when they're stood up on Valentine's Day, not knowing that a flat tire was to blame. Also, Cooper breaks up with Jane.

After being sexually harassed by a presidential candidate, a reporter urges Laura to speak out about the incident.

Linda goes into labor and freaks out once she's at the hospital.

Richard forgets the baby at home when he takes his buddies to lunch, and Steve contemplates having an affair with a waitress.

Richard dazzles everyone at a parenting class except his wife and the instructor.

Jane fights for the rights of a homeless woman who doesn't want her help.

A pregnancy scare leads Ben to propose to Laura, but he recants after learning it was a false-positive.

Richard and Linda try to get the baby into a prestigious school.
