On his 20th birthday, Ed learns the horrific truth about his condition from his fellow human guinea pig Dan. Mysterious hitman Agent Winston kills Dan and goes after Ed and so does the police. Ed goes on the run with his friend Maria.

Ed contemplates getting brain surgery to have the chip removed, but Winston interferes with his plans.

Ed crosses paths with a runaway sheriff's daughter and realizes she was a part of the same experiment.

Ed and Maria head to New Mexico in hopes of finding Dr. Heisenberg, and they wind up implicated with animal rights activists.

Ed and Maria end up in cahoots with her grifter father, Nash.

Ed and Maria discover their future exploits are on the newsstand, chronicled in a comic book created by a tortured artist who's on the verge of 21.

Ed and Maria hit the beach to blow off some steam, but the trip winds up putting further strain of their relationship.

To lure him out of hiding, Winston kidnaps Ed's mother.

A baby is abandoned in Ed's and Maria's car.

Ed and Maria team up with a TV conspiracy theorist and infiltrate a mortuary, where they make a shocking discovery.

Ed seeks the wisdom of Cali, a mysterious 35-year-old polygamist sib.

Winston finds Ed and Maria stranded in Los Angeles.

Ed finally winds up in the presence of Dr. Heisenberg, but he begins to wonder if this meeting is too good to be true.
