After a late night (and forbidden) rendezvous with her boyfriend, a teenage girl disappears on the way home. The only clue is her bicycle, lying abandoned in a swamp.

Circumstantial evidence leads the police to suspect Peggy's father of involvement in the girl's disappearance.

A second resident of the town disappears, this time from the municipal swimming pool. Later, a car is found abandoned on a country road, with no trace of the driver, who is also a resident of the town.

Dissatisfied with the investigation, Peggy obtains CCTV tapes that implicate the man she suspects. But while he is being questioned, someone else disappears.

Relations among the townspeople are tense. What appears to be a pattern in the disappearances is shattered when another person vanishes.

The confessed murderer of a blackmailer claims no knowledge of any of the increasing number of disappearances. Then there's an astonishing development in the case.

The person who reappeared has a mysterious symbol burned into her back and is too traumatized to explain where she has been. An odd discovery adds a possible new dimension to the case.

Rumors of a paranormal connection to the disappearances are soon debunked, but tensions run high among the villagers as still more people disappear and the traumatized returnee remains unable to talk.

While caring for her injured father, Peggy discovers a possible clue. The returnee begins to speak but cannot bring herself to say what has happened to her.

Peggy and Sharif are on the heels of the suspect but are unable to prevent more people leaving town. Nine is tormented by nightmares, which might give her more insight in to her ordeals.

Sharif is taken off the case, and the army begins to evacuate Oldenheim. While Sharif is forced to leave town, Peggy continues the hunt for the suspect on her own, with disastrous consequences.

Bit by bit, the explanation for what happened in Oldenheim is becoming clear, but the truth comes at a high cost. Who will be the final victim.
