Madrid, 1979. In order to save his circus from the crisis, tamer Ángel Cristo needs to hire famous vedette Bárbara Rey for a television special. But Bárbara is more interested in her acting career and her secret relationship with a mysterious lover.

Ángel continues trying to convince Bárbara to be in the special. Tired of always being the third wheel to every man who flirts with her, Bárbara challenges Juan Carlos I.

Ángel and Bárbara begin rehearsals for the special. The attraction between them is increasingly evident, but neither are willing to take the next step due to Ángel's honor to Renata and Bárbara's relationship with Juan Carlos I.

Ángel and Bárbara's engagement, and Bárbara's decision to give up her career for Ángel, is met with apprehension from the King and Chelo. Chelo suspects that Ángel hides a lot more than it seems.

As she adjusts to circus life, Bárbara, wanting to be more than just a host, starts taming the elephants. Meanwhile, Ángel tries to digest Bárbara's past and her long list of ex-lovers.

Ángel's episode of jealousy and violence unleashes Bárbara's childhood memories as she resigns to a failing marriage. Meanwhile, Ángel tries to export his circus and close a deal with the Arabs.

By 1987, Ángel and Bárbara's kids, Angelito and Sofía, are the only thing keeping their marriage afloat. After Ángel puts Sofía in danger, Bárbara gives him an ultimatum. But, can an abuser really change?

Ángel and Bárbara fight for the custody of their kids. To ensure he wins, Ángel has bought out anyone who could declare in favor of Bárbara. Desperate, she turns to Juan Carlos I, but the only person who is willing to help her is Chelo.
