After a chance encounter with childhood sweetheart Josh Chan, Rebecca Bunch uproots her life and moves across the country, hoping to find happiness in his arms. As Rebecca settles in, new coworker Paula begins meddling in her business.

Rebecca meets Josh's friends and goes to great lengths to bond with his girlfriend, Valencia. Meanwhile, Paula begins devising schemes to get Josh and Rebecca together; and Greg struggles with his feelings for Rebecca.

In an attempt to get closer to Josh, Rebecca throws a housewarming party despite her lack of social connections in West Covina.

In an attempt to get her mind off of Josh, Rebecca flirts with notions of having sex with a stranger and settling for Greg. Meanwhile, Heather studies Rebecca for her psychology class; and Josh tries to land a new job.

After Rebecca and Greg's disastrous date, Greg accuses her of being a terrible person in front of Josh. Rebecca takes drastic measures to prove she is a good person, which includes helping Darryl with his messy divorce.

Paula keeps Rebecca under video surveillance when she's invited to Josh's family's Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, Greg makes plans to quit his job and go back to school, but a family emergency interferes.

When Rebecca decides to self-medicate, she begins having hallucinations of Dr. Phil. Meanwhile, Paula contemplates having an affair with a distinguished client; and Josh's friends help him assemble a table for Valencia.

Stress levels skyrocket when Rebecca's passive-aggressive mother arrives for Hanukkah. Meanwhile, Heather and Greg spend an awkward Christmas at his mother's house; and Josh attempts to recapture his former dance glory.

Attempting to cozy up to Josh's friends, Rebecca rents a party bus for a trip to the beach. Meanwhile, Paula becomes fed up with Rebecca; Darryl decides to crash the party; and Rebecca's web of lies begin to unravel.

When Rebecca finds out that Josh is volunteering at a summer camp, she tags along, hoping to rekindle their teenage romance. Meanwhile, Heather becomes serious about Greg; and Darryl hosts an expensive party for Josh's friends.

Rebecca mistakenly sends Josh a text meant for Paula and takes drastic measures to ensure he never sees it. Meanwhile, Paula and her husband attempt to rekindle their relationship, only to be thwarted by Rebecca.

After the texting debacle, Rebecca attempts to recover by pursuing a case she thinks will bring her closer to Josh.

Rebecca and Josh head to Los Angeles to present their case, which also forces them to confront their long buried feelings.

Rebecca learns that Josh has conflicted feelings for her and Darryl wants to let everyone know about his newfound bisexuality. Meanwhile, Greg must figure out how to work alongside Heather post break-up.

Rebecca gets stuck on a plane with her therapist, who takes her on a surprising journey. Meanwhile, in West Covina, Josh, Paula, Darryl and even a reluctant Greg come together to find Rebecca.

Rebecca is determined to get her life on track so when Josh's sister asks her to be a bridesmaid,

Rebecca is hiding a big secret from Paula, which begins to affect their friendship. Josh and Greg switch roles when Josh makes a discovery that angers him, while Greg is happier than he has been in a long time.

Rebecca's relationships are tested as she tries to navigate her friendship with Paula, her history with Josh and her connection with Greg. While at Josh's sister Jayma's wedding, Rebecca's world is turned upside down.
