Yes, there's a certain genius to it, a devilish American horribleness that makes you laugh even before you've seen it. See, prank phone calls are so late '80s. Actually, late '50s, but who's counting? The shtick just needed to be refined.

Using puppets instead of people pulls you further away from getting involved in the show. It's difficult to believe that these are real exchanges that the pranksters had on the phone.
