President Carter is coming to town and Chief Mobey is all excited for him to try is fried chicken, but Mayor Burnside has other ideas.

Chief Roy goes on a crash diet in an attempt to lose weight and it makes him more irascible than ever. During one of his arrests he's accused of police brutality so he must defend his actions.

Roy enjoys spending tine with old friend and fishing buddy Bill Peterson but doesn't take it well when Bill announces he's gay. Roy is suddenly uncomfortable in his presence but when he hears other making fun he decides to do the right thing.

Sergeant Baker is advised to invest in property after receiving a $45,000 insurance check. He proceeds to purchase a house in a white neighborhood next door to Jasper.
