On his first day of high school, Alan is the envy of his friends when an attractive girl with a reputation asks him to tutor her in science.

When Nathaniel gets sick, Sophia and Phyllis disagree about how he should be treated; Alan and Benny camp outside of a high rent complex in hopes of meeting Duke Snider.

Katie goes through family problems when her strict father does not support her sister's decision to get married at 19.

Following the death of one of her teachers, Katie has an attack of conscience: she cuts ties with Alan and wants to become a nun.

The family gets alarmed when Alan begins hanging out with a group of older rebels from school who are a bad influence.

When Cousin Jacob arrives in Brooklyn from the old country, Sophie goes to great lengths to cover up Jacob's tragic past from the kids.

Katie's sister announces that she has eloped, gotten pregnant and will be moving to California. Everyone is happy for her except for her father, who refuses to attend the going away party.

Needing some extra money, George gets a second job selling encyclopedias with Uncle Willy. He soon begins to question some of the sales tactics and underlying contracts that go along with the sales.

After Sophie accidentally breaks Sid's store window, they disagree on a damage estimate, prompting Sid to take legal action.

The boys and Sid all have dates for the weekend. While Alan and Warren meet Katie and Amy ahead of the dance, Benny and Sid are stuck at Sid's store waiting for their dates.

Phyllis invites one of her old friends and her husband over for dinner. She quickly finds out that her friend's life is not as ideal as it appears.

Phyllis gets promoted at her job but realizes that the promotion is at someone else's expense; George is reluctant to put his childhood home on the market.

In the series finale, everyone begins to consider the possible ramifications when the Russians launch a satellite into space.
