There's been a series of strange murders in Elise's city. The only surviving victim is Elise's runaway mother, still in the hospital. While her father spends day and night by her side, Elise is left to fend for herself. Her best friend Skyler calls with some terrible news and Elise heads out for the night, unaware that someone may be following her.

After accidentally falling asleep at Skyler's, Elise rushes to head home. But chance places her in the middle of a street fight and there's no getting out of it.

Matt and Bert are convinced that Cade is a vampire and, with options running out, Elise takes her chances at a daring escape.

After escaping from the hunters, Elise drops Cade off at the hospital and he promises to leave Elise out of his story. She heads home after being out all night to an empty house, but she's not alone for long...

After a freakish nightmare, Elise wakes up having slept all day. She ditches Skyler hoping to catch up with Cade at the hospital. His wounds from the night before have somehow completely healed, and Cade's charming words keep her from prying, but what is Cade hiding?

Elise and Cade head out to find Skyler's captors, but when Elise presses him on his story, Cade shows her his true self. Without anywhere else to turn, Elise decides to stay with him, regardless of what he is. Meanwhile the Shadow Hunters begin to interrogate their captive Skyler.
