Bella Block kann nicht verhindern, dass sich ein Tatverdächtiger in einem Mordfall vor ihren Augen erschießt. Aber damit ist der Mord an einer Frau noch lange nicht aufgeklärt. Bella ermittelt hartnäckig weiter. Bald führen ihre Ermittlungen zu Bernhard, Simons neuem Freund, der Bella durch seinen Charme beeindruckt. Bella befürchtet aber, dass sie und Simon einem Hochstapler aufgesessen sind. Wie aber kann sie das beweisen? Simon verbringt währenddessen viel Zeit beim Segeln mit seinem Freund Bernhard. Zwischen Bella und Simon beginnt es daraufhin erneut zu kriseln.

Bei einer Autopanne lernt Bella Block in einer brandenburgischen Kleinstadt den Kfz-Mechaniker Jens Johannsen kennen, der vor Jahrzehnten zusammen mit seinem Zwillingsbruder Lars wegen einer Frau von Dänemark in die ostdeutsche Provinz gezogen war.
