At the diner, Becker treats a woman who is choking on her food and seems to be obsessed with expressing her thanks.

Becker gets help to quit smoking from Reggie's friend, an ex-smoker who tells him the only substitute that worked for her was sex.

Becker gives a patient some advice on how to court Reggie. Linda volunteers for Big Sisters.

Linda quits her job after she makes a mistake on a patient's prescription. Reggie, Jake, and Bob speculate about a nicely dressed man pacing outside the diner.

Becker fumes over his former research partner's patent for anti-wrinkle cream. Reggie begins dating Jordan, the most popular guy from her high school. Linda adopts the bum who hangs out in the office doorway.

Becker and Reggie get stuck aboard a plane in Buffalo en route to a medical conference in Chicago.

Becker is visited by a friend of an old friend who turns out to be the old friend. Margaret is upset with an acquaintance over an old debt. Linda turns out to have some hidden math skills.

Becker is shot in the shoulder while rescuing Jake from a robbery attempt. In spite of his weakened state, he annoys everyone at the hospital and refuses the advice of his frustrated doctor.

While recovering from the shooting, Becker must put up with his neighbors. Meanwhile, Margaret and Linda must find a temporary doctor while Becker is out.

Elizabeth claims that she doesn't have any aspirin, but Becker finds a bottle of them while earlier snooping through her purse. Becker obsesses about her "lie" while ignoring his. Bob wins the lottery.

Jake's former best friend and person that caused his blindness returns to town wanting Jake's forgiveness.

A department store Santa drops by Dr. Becker's waiting room and drops off more than John expected. Also, Reggie's thinking of a Christmas party but will it be a thought that counts?

Reggie and a fellow student study rat behavior using a maze. Coincidentally, John's waiting room turns into a maze of boxes when Linda orders too many supplies. Margaret learns that a former patient died and has included her in her will.

A rumor spreads through the office and diner that John is dying when he suddenly begins eating healthy food and tries to control his temper.

Becker is sentenced to attend an anger management class after he insults two police officers. Linda invites Bob to move in with her after his mother kicks him out of her retirement home.

Attempting to recapture his youth, Becker buys a motorcycle.

Becker and Liz throw a dinner party attended only by Reggie, her date, and an ex-con who's suing Becker.

Becker disputes a call on his phone bill to Chico, California. Reggie is upset when she isn't invited to a friend's wedding. Bob listens to motivational tapes to land a job.

After accidentally leaving a bad phone message, Becker tries desperately to delete it before the person listens to it.

John fumes twice-once when he can't get out of the jury duty pool, and once when he isn't called to serve. Jake gets a dog.

Jake dates a friendly woman but breaks up with her when he learns that she's also blind. Margaret tries to learn why she doesn't appeal to a grouchy patient.

Becker argues with a priest when a man enters hospital in critical condition. Reggie, Jake, and Bob dabble in the stock market.

Liz is offered a job in Chicago, which prompts John to tell her how he feels about her.

Reggie's celebration after earning an A in her psychology exam turns to panic when she suddenly considers her uncertain future. John entertains one of his neighbors, who turns out to be a prostitute.
