When Arnie gets his first paycheck as an executive, he finds himself tempted to spend it all right away, while friends both old and new try to borrow from him.

Arnie learns that one of his first executive decisions is to pick his own replacement as loading dock foreman. Arnie wants to choose the best qualified man but his best friend expects the job.

When Arnie learns a very vibrant Charlie Robinson is being forced to retire he is upset. The executive decides to challenge the policy regarding age but finds few allies in his fight.

A group of protesters focus on Arnie's company because it is notorious for polluting the air. When Arnie learns is wife Lillian is behind the demonstrations he fears for his job if his boss Hamilton finds out.

Arnie is nagging his son Richard about the length of his hair while Rich pleads freedom of expression. The tables are turned when Arnie is told to shave his mustache if he expects to remain an executive.

Christmas is approaching, and Arnie and his wife are planning their usual Christmas gift to everyone they know -- a batch of homemade cookies. Because Mr. Majors promoted him to the executive suite, Arnie plans to reward him with a double batch. But he is soon chagrined to learn that it's traditional for the executives to give a more personal -- and expensive -- gift to the company president.

To go along with his new position Arnie's boss believes he needs a nice home in an upscale neighborhood. The Nuvos are at first excited by the move but Arnie and Lillian feel they don't fit in plus miss their old friends.

Arnie and Lillian decide it's time to indulge and go for a weekend at a ritzy resort. But once there they feel out of place in such luxurious surroundings and the couple are unable to enjoy themselves.

Arnie really makes it to the top tonight as he is invited to join Coflexpoga (Continental Flange's Executive Poker-Game). It's a higher stake game than he is used to, but he comes home a big winner. The first week it's not too bad but when he keeps winning, Arnie runs smack against his boss' terrible compulsion to be first.

Arnie is caught off guard when his daughter Andrea accuses him of neglect and favoring brother Richard. Arnie tries to make up to his teenage girl but finds himself making things worse.

Julius loses his job on the loading dock after many years due to staff layoffs. It happens right before his twentieth wedding anniversary so Arnie and Lillian decide to throw the couple a surprise party.

Arnie looks around work for someone to date his sister Christina but is having no takers.

A spot opens up in the company's barber shop quartet and Arnie's secretary tries out. She wins but is denied a spot in the group because of pro-male bias. She bitterly resigns her job to Arnie's dismay.
