Captain Jack McGraw and Doc Starr run afoul of Silver Star commandos while looking for an ancient Celtic artifact. They are then put on the trail of their former comrade, Duke, whose own airship, The Percival, has gone missing.

The Daedalus crew avoids destruction at the hands of the Silver Star by pushing the new LR-3 design far above the official service ceiling, but find no safe harbor at the airfield in Rome, where fascist secret police await them.

The Daedalus flees fascist fighter planes in Rome, and Doc has to do some impromptu surgery. Their refuge in Greece is cut short by a Silver Star assault, and a motorcycle chase through the narrow Athens alleyways.

The Daedalus lands in Cairo to find that the airship Percival never arrived, and and their British field contact has a good idea where it might be: an ancient, golden city on the Nile, buried by the desert and home to unearthly horrors.
