Born 20 December 1924 in Vienna, Davy studied at the Max Reinhardt Seminar. In 1948, he became assistant director at the Vienna Burgtheater and worked as a producer at the radio station Rot-Weiss-Rot from 1950 to 1955. Subsequently, he worked as a director at the Vienna Burgtheater and Akademietheater and produced several cultural documentaries for the Austria Wochenschau. From 1968 to 1988 he was senior director at the national Austrian television station ORF, where he was also head of the television plays department for five years. This was his most productive period, during which he worked as director at theaters in Göttingen, Heidelberg, Berlin, Basle, Düsseldorf and Vienna. He also directed more than 20 made-for-TV movies, one cinematic movie and about 400 radio plays. After retiring from his post at the ORF, Davy continued working as a director and actor. He is most famous for his role as the one-legged police inspector Paul Schremser in the Austrian cult TV series "Kottan ermittelt" (1976-1982).
