Thomas David Gardner is a British Film Director, Screenwriter, Producer and Actor from the Lake District, Cumbria, UK. Before becoming a filmmaker, he had an aspiration to become a history teacher at a secondary school before changing his subject and studying at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) from 2015-2018 where he graduated with a BA (Hons) in Theatre. He has 2 sisters and 1 brother, being the youngest of the four. His first foray into film came when he was studying at university and was cast in the feature film Bastion (2016) as a Clerk. He was fascinated by the making of the film during breaks between scenes. What cemented his journey to follow his passion to become a filmmaker was seeing The Grand Budapest hotel (2014) in 2016. This inspired his style of symmetrical framing in his films. He started out making documentaries, his first being Ian Brady: From Method to Madness (2018). He then followed this up with Route to Paradise (2020) before transferring into short films. His debut short film - The Fronts of War (2022) - is a WW1 short film set in the trenches, with Steven Spielberg's military advisor assisting with historical accuracy. It went on to win 13 international film awards, making it a huge success for a directorial debut. He is now in pre-production on a comedy short written by Kelsey Cromwell entitled 'Cracked' which is scheduled to be released late 2022.
