Tara Deshpande

Tara Deshpande was born on Dec 09, 1975 in India. Tara Deshpande's big-screen debut came with Bombay Boys directed by Kaizad Gustad in 1998.

Tara was born in a Maharashtrian Deshpande family on December 8, 1975 in Bombay, India. She studied in the Cathedral and John Connon School and then subsequently in St. Xavier's College from where she obtained a Major in Economics and Political Science. The Deshpande family live in Marine Drive. She has also modelled for Pantene Pro-V Shampoo, Raymond, and Wipro Shikakai, Camay soap and many other products. She is also a Theater Artiste and was launched in 'Begum Sumroo' by theatre guru Alyque Padamsee. She has authored books of short stories titled 'Fifty and Done' (Harper Collins), A Sense for Spice (Westland) An Indian Sense of Salad (Penguin) and contributed to the food anthology Chillies and Porridge (Harper Collins). She also wrote for the Boston Globe, Boston Herald and has an on-line article titled 'Kagazi' that she wrote for Lok Vani. She was also a one of the first VJ to be hired by MTV when they came to India in 1994. She hosted several MTV shows with actor Rahul Khanna and then had her own show MTV Get a Voice" in 1996. Tara has also authored an on-line suspense thriller 'The Motive' which gives Internet users to make their own contributions to this story, though she will use her discretion to edit the contributions and write the final chapter on her own. This project was promoted by software giant Adobe and was considered India's first e-novel. She launched her career as an actress with the 1996 in National Award winner Sudhir Mishra's 'Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin', which went on to become a cult classic. Her film Encounter with Naseeruddin Shah was nominated for best Film of the Year 2020 at the Screen Videocon awards. Bombay Boys with Nasiruddin shah was screened at the Toronto, London and Sydney Film festivals. Her film Style directed by NN Chandra was declared a hit in 2002. On April 29, 2001 Tara got married to Boston-based Daniel Tennebaum in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in traditional Jewish style. The traditional Hindu wedding took place in at her Mumbai residence during January 2002. Tara lives both in Mumbai and in Manhattan New York. She hosts Chat masala- a talk show with well known celebrities on her Facebook page www.facebook.com/taradeshpandeofficial and Cooking with Tara on her instagram handle. She has now become a well established food writer and chef as well as being an actress.
