Sarah Zoe Canner was born on October 23, 1972 in Massachusetts, USA. A graduate of the prestigious Columbia University MFA Film program, Canner is a multi-talented artist, known for acting in Janosik: A True Story (2009), directed by Oscar Nominated Agnieska Holland, for writing Adventurers: Masters of Time (2005), for writing and acting in Petty Crimes (2002), and for writing, directing and producing Get Lucky (2004), a prescient precursor to the #Metoo movement, based on Canner's real life assault at a party by director Harmony Korine. When Canner presented the script of Get Lucky (2004) to a team of her Columbia University Film professors, they advised her to tone it down because it didn't seem real. Canner told them it actually happened, to her. They said sometimes real life doesn't always play well on screen. Canner stood her ground and went on to make the film on her own terms. The story sheds light on the harassment and attacks that women experience everyday. More often than not, the perpetrators, famous or not, get away with it unscathed, while the victims are left to pick up the pieces in silence. Thankfully, women have become more empowered to speak out in recent years.Canner also is the Founder, Artistic Director of the Haute Réflecture® Reflective Safety Fashion Brand, Vespertine NYC.
