Born in 1993 Sam was the youngest of 9 and grew up in Bacup, Lancashire where, at the age of 5 he joined several of his siblings in attending a local theatre workshop, where his older sister Emily still works as an actress, Within months he landed the lead part in an advert for school uniforms at Asda then at 6 starred in a Warburtons bread advert. More serious work came with The Bill and Where the Heart Is before he was cast as Chesney Brown in Coronation Street and by the age of 10 he had become the nation's favourite redhead and had picked up the Best Newcomer Award at the National Television Awards, The following year he presented the Queen with a bouquet at as party to celebrate 50 years of Coronation Street, In 2006 he met the Queen again when he filmed inside Buckingham Palace for his role as Horrid Henry in the Chidren's Party at the Palace to celebrate the Queen's 8th birthday. He married his long term girlfriend, yoga teacher Briony Gardner in 2019 having been together since he was 18; Away from the Street he runs an embroidery and printing business with one of his brothers.
