Rómulo Gallegos
Rómulo Gallegos was born on Aug 02, 1884 in Venezuela. Rómulo Gallegos's big-screen debut came with Doña Bárbara directed by Fernando de Fuentes in 1943. Gallegos is not only famous as a writer of novels (the most famous of which is _Doña Barbara (1923)_, short stories and political articles. In 1947, after having been Minister of Education, he was elected President of Venezuela. In 1948, however, he was overthrown by a military coup, upon which he went into exile. He returned to Caracas in 1958, where he died in 1969. Among his most famous novels are, apart from Doña Barbara : _La Trepadora_ (1924), _Los Aventureros_ (1913) and _Los Inmigrantes_ (1913). He also wrote a play : _El Milagro del año_ (1911).
