He directed on the Emmy-nominated 3rd season of 'VICE on HBO'. His collaborations with Dave Cassidy and two-time Oscar-winner Barbara Kopple include seven feature film documentaries: the NAACP nom'd Dap-Kings docu-musical 'Miss Sharon Jones!'; Discovery Channel climate change anthology film 'Killing the Colorado'; Emmy-nom'd Netflix Original about Johnny Cash and President Nixon, 'Tricky Dick & the Man in Black'; poignant true-crime / self-help mashup for Investigation Discovery, 'A Murder in Mansfield'; and an Emmy-nom'd look into a U.S. special ops hostage rescue mission gone wrong for HISTORY, 'Desert One'. Their latest together, 'Gumbo Coalition', documented civil rights leaders during the "Trump era," a DOCNYC & IDFA premiere in fall 2022. Ray gained a fervent following around his work over two decades into the dark side of the "war on terror," culminating in the 2018 book The Watchdogs Didn't Bark from Skyhorse Publishing.
