Matt Weinglass is an actor, director, writer and producer living in Los Angeles, CA who has appeared in several prominent films, TV shows and music videos. He recently produced the award-winning Amazon Prime feature documentary, Tupamaro: Urban Guerrillas (2019), has written, produced and directed "Crash: The Animated Series" (2016 - 2020), and numerous television segments, documentary pieces and sketch comedy shorts. He is the director and CEO of Sherwood Players Productions, a production company which also offers classes and workshops and is part of a larger extended artistic community surrounding the Los Angeles area.Matt was born in San Francisco and is one of identical twin brothers raised by a single mother. His twin brother Jeremy Weinglass is a concert pianist in Los Angeles. Matt began acting at age ten when he joined the Scaramouche Repertory Theater, a children's theatre company in the Bay Area. As a teen he was selected to compete in the American Collegiate Theatre Festival in Park City, Utah.In 1998 Matt was accepted into the BFA acting conservatory program at UC Santa Barbara. While there he co-founded The Sherwood Players, a theater company which produced original, topical and edgy material and gained a large following throughout the Santa Barbara community. The company also produced films, including Matt's feature directorial debut, Into the Void (2000), starring Autumn Reeser. After college Matt moved to Los Angeles where the 6'7" actor worked as a bouncer to support himself while pursuing a career in entertainment.In 2004 he co-created and produced two TV series for LA36, AfterthoughTV and The Underground, both hosted by and starring Deanna Russo, which served as platforms for progressive filmmakers and artists of all types to showcase their work. The Underground (2006) regularly featured Josh Gad and his comedy troupe The Lost Nomads. The final episode featured an exclusive interview with the creators of Loose Change (2005) an investigation on 9/11, scoring the highest viewership in the history of the network.Under the same name The Underground, LLC, Matt went on to produce and direct documentary pieces around the world for various networks such as Al Gore's Current TV, including Ballentine: Top of the World (2006) filmed in Greenland about the the melting polar ice caps and the US military's global presence during the Iraq War, Nicaragua: A Dying Generation (2009) about the abortion ban in Nicaragua initiated by the Catholic Church, Bolivia: Don't Tread On Me (2009) about the Bolivian government seizure of indigenous citizen's land and the docu-series Freaks Like Us (2008) and All Fired Up (2009) which both documented Senator Barack Obama's rise to the presidency.As an actor, Matt co-starred as a bouncer on the TV series Rush Hour (2016). He was featured as a basketball player in a sketch opposite James Caan on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (2011) and appeared as various "big men" in popular movies including Epic Movie (2005), Rebound (2005), Hitchcock (2012), Oz, The Great and Powerful (2013), Muppets Most Wanted (2014), Bright (2017) and music videos including Justin Bieber Let Me Love You (2016). Recently he starred in the horror/comedy feature Garden Party Massacre (2018), which has won several awards including Outstanding Ensemble at the Los Angeles Academy of Film Awards.Matt teaches a Director's Course in Hollywood, and hosts a monthly Production Workshop series SPECTRUM which has featured prominent industry guest speakers including Louis Lombardi, Ken Davitian, EG Daily, and the late great Ed Asner.
