Matthew Steven Gambell was born in Ipswich, England. Whilst studying at Kesgrave High School & Sixth Form, Matt became interested in pursuing a career in film working on many short films and sketches with his friends. In 2012 he began studying Media Production at the University of Lincoln and further grew his experience in directing films.During his time at University, Matt joined the University of Lincoln Filmmaking Society. The group would meet each week and partake in filmmaking challenges, share and discuss techniques and build a network for the craft. In his second year Matt became a member of the committee before become vice-president by his third year.It was thanks to the contacts he made, and his time spent with the Filmmaking Society that he would later go on to direct his first feature film "What Goes Up" which he co-wrote and co-produced with Andrew Coates. It was a nearly zero budget production, tasking Matt to rely on producing many of the elements in-kind from friends and family in order to succeed. Upon completion the film gained critical acclaim, winning the award for Best Romance at the London Film Awards in 2014.It was his success from "What Goes Up" and his ability to work within such a small budget that gained him the directing role on "Milk and Honey" in 2016.Matt presently resides in Brighton, UK. Where he works on further production projects for his company GSProductions Ltd.
