Raised in Gilroy, California, the garlic capital of the world, Maryedith Burrell is an award-winning show business veteran with a resume that includes TV star, screenwriter, documentary producer and director. A theatre-trained actress, she began her career performing with ACT San Francisco, LA Shakespeare, The Groundlings, The Second City and The War Babies. She went on to star in the late-night comedy series Fridays with Larry David, the sitcom Throb with Jane Leeves, Ron Howard's Parenthood, and The Jackie Thomas Show with Tom Arnold and Roseanne Barr. She also enjoyed recurring roles on Seinfeld and Home Improvement as well as guest-star turns on everything from Murder She Wrote to The Tonight Show. Her solo play, #OUCH!: An Accidental Comedy, was featured in the New York Times "Top Ten."While enjoying a career as an actor/director, Ms. Burrell also honed her skills as a writer. She has created comedy revue, musicals and opera for the stage, written screenplays for all the major networks and studios in the U.S. and Europe, and created documentaries for National Geographic, The Discovery Channel, and TLC, among others. Being "Creative Consultant" on RAISE HELL: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins directed by Janice Engel took her to the Sundance Film Festival 2019. An overall deal at Disney introduced her to a career as a script doctor. She is an author with credits that include The Los Angeles Times, Vogue, Rolling Stone and The Great Smokies Review, and Ms. Burrell's latest essay, "An Affair To Forget," is featured in the best-seller anthology What Was I Thinking? 58 Bad Boyfriend Stories (St. Martin's Press). Living in Asheville N.C. and a proud member of Flatiron Writers, Ms. Burrell remains active in the Southern literary scene. She teaches at Western Carolina University, arts conservatories, lectures internationally, and runs public speaking workshops for authors.
