Marianne Hansen was born in Hong Kong to a Chinese mother and a Danish father. At four months old she moved to Denmark and was raised in the countryside south of Copenhagen. She speaks several languages: Danish, Cantonese, English (it was a trilingual household) and some German and French. She attended university in London and has a BA (Hons) Business Studies degree. After college, she started acting, and in 2002 she came to Los Angeles to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, but soon discovered that she would rather be behind than in front of the camera. She studied directing, producing and cinematography at UCLA Extension (2004-2006) and holds a MA in Screenwriting from The London Film School (2011) and as of 2015 also a MA in Film and Media Studies from Copenhagen University. She has completed several short films and one feature film. Her graduation film "Alice Rose" won best art film at the 2006 FAIF film festival in Los Angeles, and her debut feature film "Lapse" was the last thing she did in the US before returning to Denmark in December 2007. The film was completed in 2010, with a re-edit that was completed in 2013. She has since completed an additional 3 short films: "Dronning for en dag/Queen for a Day" (2013), "Fuck" (2013) and "Et gensyn/Second Encounters" (2014).
