Leo Montiel is an American actor born in Los Angeles, CA to Cuban parents Ed and Gricell. In 1998, Leo moved to Miami, FL with his mom and 2 brothers. His acting aspirations started at the age of 8 when his Drama teacher told him to audition for a role in their annual christmas play musical. Leo auditioned and got the part of "Raspy the elf" Santa's mischievous but trusty sidekick. Later that year, Montiel auditioned for South Miami Middle Schools performing arts magnet program. He had to memorize a 2 minute monologue, and perform a 1 minute song. Shortly after, Montiel received a letter of acceptance to attend one of the districts most prestigious magnet programs for theatre. Unfortunately his time at the magnet program was cut short due to transportation issues, and would be forced to go his local school that did not have a drama program.During these years, Leo took up the clarinet and performed in the schools band program. Leo became quite good at the clarinet, receiving an award for best solo and much recognition from his band instructor, David Toledo whom he still stays in contact with today. In High school, Montiel joined drama class as his elective to get his feet wet again, there he met his instructor Kimberly Adams who immediately noticed Leo's acting abilities and requested that he audition to join the schools theatre troop, an offer that Leo refused due to lack of interest. In the 10th grade, the acting bug bit him again as he began to show more interest in his class by performing more monologues and participating in after school acting workshops.Montiel knew that he wanted to be an actor, but not in the same way his thespian peers wanted to be. Leo wanted to act in film and television. At age 17, Leo moved back to Los Angeles where it all began to pursue his dream of being a working actor. In 2007, Leo began taking private acting lessons from Veteran actor and Award winning acting coach, Ruben Moreno for 4 years until Moreno's death in 2011. Since Montiel's arrival to Los Angeles, he has played 3 separate roles on FOX's hit crime reality drama, "Americas Most Wanted", as well as several roles in short and feature length films. In 2017, Montiel landed a role on ABC 2020'S hit show "In an Instant."
