Joe already had a following in the independent comic book arena - he was co-creator of the cult hit Cry for Dawn and had also written and published dozens of other comic books, including The Night Terrors (featuring Bernie Wrightson and William S. Stout), NightCry, Tales of the Dead, and several one-shots.
