Jack Gunthridge was born in Salem, Missouri, USA on the 8th of August. As a child, he was exposed to literature through his mother and would spend his time reading books by Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Dickens, and others. While his mother was going to school, he would spend afternoons with his grandparents, Ed and Eileen Gill. He would learn how to sew and do other crafts from his grandmother. It is because of her that he would make puppets that would entertain his friends. When he moved to Frederick, Oklahoma, USA, Jack became interested in art and started to work in various media. It was here that he would also become interested in film. After having a dream about a reel of film, he decided to become a filmmaker. He decided to make comedies after having watched The Marx Brothers in Un jour au cirque (1939). While he has kept his birth as an artist mystical, he would spend his teenage years studying Charles Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and other classic comedians. He moved once again to Bowling Green, Ohio, USA. He continued his studies at Bowling Green High School and would specialize in art and creative writing. His was accepted to the Governor's Summer Institute for Writers in Ohio when he was 16. This was a training institute for young writers. He was the only screenwriter or playwright at the institute. His scripts placed him among the top in the state with poets and novelists. The "Little Red Riding Hood" sketch of Fairy Tale Romance (2006) was written when he was at high school and gave him his greatest fame at that time. While he had been interested in film and wrote scripts while in high school, he did not officially become a filmmaker until he made The Tree of Knowledge (2000), the first film he directed. 3:41 (2000) was the first Jack Gunthridge Production where he wrote, directed, and produced his own films. Love Lorn (2000) holds the distinction of being the first film where he would write, direct, produce, and star in his own films. This has been a standard feature of his work.
