Born in Washington D.C., Ibrahim Ashmawey lived in Baltimore, Michigan, London, New York, and Egypt before finally settling in Southern California. He is the second child of four. From a young age growing up in Troy, Michigan, Ibrahim has always been passionate about film and insisted on filming all family vacations himself to explore his options with a camera. He would then watch his favorite films and try to copy the camera motions himself.Though heavily involved in sports such as football and boxing, Ibrahim always had an interest in acting. It was after having a small role in "James and the Giant Peach" that Ibrahim really fell in love with acting. In high school, he had the lead role as Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire". From then on, he would seize ever opportunity he found.On top of taking film classes at the University of Michigan, Ibrahim founded AshmaweyFilms along with his brother Omar. Together, they wrote and shot a number of short films for AshmaweyFilms Productions as well as other production companies. Their first production was a series of commercials for a local travel agency. Soon after, they created a string of short films that got into international film festivals.In 2010, they began writing their first full length feature, Boiling Pot, which is based on true events of racism that occurred on college campuses across the nation in 2008. With a strong cast that includes Academy Award winner Louis Gossett Jr., Emmy winner Keith David, Danielle Fishel, John Heard, M. Emmet Walsh, and Davetta Sherwood, they shot Boiling Pot in January 2013. The film has already been gaining buzz and is set to be completed in January 2014.
