Giorgio Agamben, even then obviously part of the hyper-intellectual milieu from which Pasolini drew inspiration, has been a professor in philosophy at a number of Italian universities (currently Venice), and a visiting professor since 1994 at several US universities. He was briefly in the US headlines in 2003 when, having been appointed Distinguished Professor at New York University, he arrived in New York to deliver a series of lectures. At the airport, he refused to be fingerprinted on principle, seeing it as an imposition gratuitously created by the US foreign policy which has created and nurtured terrorism by giving it a reason for being. He was therefore refused entry and returned to Italy directly, having to renounce his appointment.
