Francis Jeanson was a French philosopher known for his support of the Communist party during the Algerian War, for which he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for defying the government of France until he received amnesty in 1966. He also supported the Bosnians in the 1990s. Jeanson was a reporter for the Alger Républicain (1945), managed Les Temps Modernes (1951-56) as well as working with Esprit magazine and Éditions du Seuil. He wrote many articles, treatises and books. He appears in the Jean-Luc Godard film La Chinoise (1967) as himself, having a political & philosophical discussion with actress Anne Wiazemsky.
