From the time he fronted his first orchestra in the late 1920s, Spanish-born violin prodigy Enric Madriguera did much to popularise Latin-American music in America. After completing studies at the Barcelona Conservatory he performed with several bands while still in his teens. He briefly worked in South America as musical director for Columbia Records. Following a spell at the Havana Casino, he moved on to the United States and formed a society-style dance orchestra in New York.
