Five years later, he joined the Old Vic company at Sadler's Wells. His first film work followed in 1935, two years later. He managed a simultaneous career in radio, achieving popularity as "Dr. Morelle". He was an accomplished lyricist and composer who wrote music for dozens of stage productions.
