Debi was born in west Texas and then moved with her family to Anchorage, Alaska, where her father was business manager at a new university. She began her acting career when the family moved to Norman, Oklahoma, home of OU. She graduated from the university with a bachelor and master's degree in English Literature and additional degrees in drama and communications. She continued her film, television and stage career in Dallas before relocating to Los Angeles.
