Born Charles R. Bush III in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Chuck" grew up in the nearby hamlet of Houma, Louisiana. In 1982 Bush moved to Austin, Texas where he underwent a life-changing experience. On April 3, 1983 Chuck Bush entered a 7-11 in Austin; at the same moment, first-time director Kevin Reynolds was exiting that same store. Reynolds was in Austin to begin principal photography of his Une bringue d'enfer ! (1985) and Bush resembled a character Reynolds had been unsuccessful in casting. The two men spoke briefly and Bush was asked to audition the next morning. The rest is history. Reynolds cast Chuck Bush as the boorish "Dorman", a John Belushi-type slob that rounded out a cast that included screen greats Kevin Costner and Judd Nelson. Since then, Bush has made a career behind the camera as a producer, writer and director of several family films and television projects. Bush returned to his native Louisiana in 1990 and in 2001 worked with the Louisiana Legislature to create some of the most aggressive tax incentives for film and television production in the United States. Since then he has worked diligently to develop the entertainment industry in Louisiana, teaching at the college level to build a workforce and developing family films and television programs.
