Cathal Joseph Patrick Smyth is perhaps best known as Chas Smash the inimitable Master Of Ceremonies, Chief Nutty Dancer, trumpet player & co-vocalist in the hugely popular British band, Madness, who have an impressive 21 UK Top 20 singles to their credit & are generally viewed as the masters of the pop video.He is the recipient of two Ivor Novello awards for; Our House, co-written with Madness guitarist Chris Foreman & for Outstanding Song Collection with the other 6 members of the band.During Madness 'rest' period from 1986 to their infamous return to the stage in 1992 with Madstock in London's Finsbury Park, Cathal became an A&R man at Go! Discs. In 2001 he began his own record label; RGR Ltd. Madness'long awaited musical; Our House, opens at the Cambridge Theatre in London's West End on 21 October 2002. A fictional 'London Love Story' featuring some of the band's many hits, woven into a Sliding Doors meets It's A Wonderful Life.Madness are currently recording two new songs for the musical, and begin their 9 date UK Arena tour on 11 December 2002.
