Arik Martin is a screenwriter and playwright from Chicago, where he cut his teeth producing underground theatre in a dilapidated storefront. Critics there hailed him as "the best legit playwright Chicago has seen since David Mamet," and "one of the smartest playwrights working in Chicago - or at least one of the most masterful at manipulating his audience."AintItCool.com dubbed his feature screenwriting debut, the indie thriller Sympathy, their "favorite film" of Hollywood ScreamFest, and Variety called it "a well-guided female empowerment missile." Sympathy was distributed domestically by Breaking Glass/Vicious Circle, including a streaming run on Netflix.After serving as a staff writer for the 2014 CBS Diversity Comedy Showcase, he was hired in 2015 to be the Head Writer for the show.Arik was awarded a residency at the Ragdale Foundation, an idyllic retreat in Lake Forest, Illinois, which offers artists from a variety of disciplines an inspiring, supportive environment where they can produce enduring creative works.When not writing, he volunteers as a mentor with the Young Storytellers Foundation, teaching the fundamentals of storytelling and screenwriting to elementary school students.He studied theatre at Florida State University, where he attended on a National Merit Scholarship, and is represented by Credence Entertainment.
